he's got a point in that using the name of 'supreme being' is a cheap way to get votes and that enforcing moral beliefs on others is wrong (informing them of yours isnt nessarily) should beliefs be confined to the pulpit? no, they have a place in society and underwrite everything this society is based on (in this writer's little humble opinion) In summary: 1) Someone who uses 'supreme being's name to lever advantage when it is not called for by said being will be judged by same being possibly negatively. (speculation, He knows) 2) that sort of view is needed more these days. however, keep in mind that it's likely to be someone USING that name to lever advantage somehow, not nessarily a command from 'supreme being'. and he is correct in writing that 'supreme being' is a POWERFUL ally. 3) point to note: thanks to these sorts of people. trying to score points off God, and because they use God's name, have managed to give Christianity a shocking reputation. (as if we needed our reputations dragged further through the mud) 4) well, should church and state be mixed? absolutely, because you'd find that society is Biblically based (minus slavery and stoning people, tho some states in US have death sentence) should self-serving people be allowed to mix church and state? NO! but they do, and will in the future. you probably dont want these comments, but i HAD to post em. :D

I ALWAYS want comments. And the only point I'm gonna argue with you on is your contention that church and state should be mixed. Mixing church and state means forcing the morals of said church on members of the state who are not members of the church. And that's wrong, and anyone who says otherwise isn't bright enough to bother arguing with. *grin* Society is not so much biblically based, as based on strong beliefs held by religious people. But those beliefs were not necessarily biblical ones, and even when they were, the creators of the society took large steps to ensure that those who did not hold the same religious beliefs as the majority would not be forced to live by the majority's morals. A lot of people forget, the US founding fathers had in large part fled religious persecution, or were a generation or two descended from those who had, and so knew perfectly well what happens when the majority religious group uses the state to dictate religion and morals. And that would be BAD THINGS! As I've said before, you're free to live your life however you like, so long as you truly give me the same freedom. You're right tho, xianity doesn't need ANY help creating a shocking reputation. The 100 years war, the crusades, the inquisition, the Salem witch trials, they created a shocking reputation for xianity all on their own. *smirk*
